To begin, I had a quick discussion about what my client wanted to achieve. From there, I created a pin board with her. Since we are in two different cities, Portland and Seattle, this was a quick way for us both to share inspiration. After the style was defined, I started sketching a layout and ideas of how the kitchen would look both in plan and three dimensionally. Most everything was shared over email, Skype and Pinterest. I made about three trips to Seattle throughout the process to make sure things were going as planned.
Eventually deVOL will be opening up the rest of the townhouse to customers, too. Although the upstairs rooms aren’t decorated yet, the showroom team is happy to take visitors up to the roof garden for a look over London. “We have a long way to go with the house but it’s exciting for me, I have a whole East End house to decorate and style, so my head is full of ideas every minute of every day,” Helen shares.
Image above: I was chef in residence at Leighton House a couple of years ago during the Nour festival and one of the workshops was on spice mixtures and I took the opportunity to reorganize my spice cupboard and bought a whole lot of Weck jars. Even though they don’t all stack up perfectly, I love them and I love the fact that they are completely hermetically sealed preserving the spices in perfect condition. They also look great.
